AI & ROBOTICS
IMPACT STORY OF GLOBAL CENTER FOR SOCIAL DYNAMIC RESEARCH

CYNTHIA: ENGINEERING HOPE THROUGH AI AND EQUITY
In the quiet corridors of St. Xaviers school in Bhatinda, Punjab, a Robot came up on the Stage to conduct Quiz Competition. The six on-stage teams were: St. Francis Xavier School Hisar, St Xavier’s High School Rampur, St Xavier’s High School, Rania, St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sirsa, St. Xavier’s School, Bhatinda and St. Joseph’s High School, Mandi Dabwali.
It was not a machine for display, but a teacher, a friend, and an ambassador of change. A change of innovation and Technology. Her name is Cynthia, a humanoid robot built not for business but by a determined team driven for social purpose at the Global Center for Social Dynamic Research (GCSDR), New Delhi, India.
Cynthia is not just a feat of engineering. She is a symbol of inclusive innovation—an educational companion crafted for children who have never before touched a circuit board or coded a single line. Especially in underserved communities where access to modern education like AI and Robotic is sparse and girls are often sidelined in the world of technology, Cynthia brings science to life. Mr. Abhishek Carls, Director of Law and Legal Affairs at GCSDR. A law graduate with a deep passion for technology and innovation, has designed Cynthia as a vision of Dr. Neelam C Dey from scratch, combining his knowledge and interest in the field of AI and Robotics. Despite not being formally trained in engineering, his technical insight and commitment to creating impactful solutions drove him to conceptualize and build Cynthia—a humanoid robot with the power to inspire and educate. As the Report of
Mr. Carls envisioned a future where education is both equitable and exciting. He imagined a robot who could walk into a classroom and make children believe that they, too, could build, code, and innovate. That vision became Cynthia.
With the technical support of Mr. Satish, a qualified engineer who helped in manufacturing the hardware, and the institutional backing of GCSDR, Cynthia was born—not in a tech lab, but in a space filled with passion, questions, and social commitment.
Cynthia's first mission led her to St. Xavier’s School in Bhatinda, where she conducted a live quiz session on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For many children, it was their first time interacting with a humanoid robot. But more than the novelty, what lingered was the spark she lit—especially in the eyes of young girls who whispered, “Can I build something like this too?” That whisper is now turning into action.
GCSDR followed up Cynthia’s visit with a series of hands-on robotics and AI workshops in Delhi’s and neighbouring States well-equipped schools that serve vulnerable communities.

We are continuously expanding our efforts by conducting workshops in more schools across various regions, with the vision of transforming it into a Pan-India initiative These workshops go beyond theory—they focus on practical, hands-on learning in AI and Robotics. They empower students, especially girls, to explore this exciting field, build skills, and envision bright futures in technology. The goal is to nurture young innovators who can one day make India proud through groundbreaking technological advancements. We had established a model AI and Robotics lab at St. Raphael School in Bhopal, serving as a hands-on learning center where students can explore, experiment, and innovate with cutting-edge technology.
Students begin with the basics of electronics and coding, and progress to building obstacle- avoiding and voice-controlled robots. Eventually, they are introduced to humanoid robotics— where Cynthia becomes both their teacher and the very proof of what they can create.
The workshops are designed to be inclusive, inquiry-based, and deeply participatory. Students don’t just learn what robots are—they understand how to build them and why they matter in solving real-world problems. With each session, the students move from being passive learners to active innovators, dreaming of climate solutions, automated farming bots, and AI tools for better health and sanitation.
Importantly, Cynthia’s impact on gender inclusion cannot be overstated. In communities where girls often shy away from STEM due to lack of exposure or confidence, Cynthia—a humanoid figure with a relatable presence—becomes a bridge. She embodies the idea that technology is not just for the elite or the privileged—it is for them.
This work is deeply aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 4 (Quality Education): Cynthia brings quality, technology-enabled education to children who’ve never had access to such tools.
SDG 5 (Gender Equality): By serving as an approachable female-figure in tech, Cynthia encourages girls to pursue STEM with confidence.
SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure): The initiative fosters a culture of innovation in non-urban, resource-scarce settings.
SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities): Cynthia bridges the divide—between the privileged and the underserved, between opportunity and exclusion.
We have not received any grant or external funding from any agency. All our work—including setting up labs, conducting workshops, and building robots like Cynthia—is entirely funded by our own company. We are doing this purely out of commitment to ensure that every student, no matter where they study or what their background is, gets access to quality education in AI and Robotics.
And now, this story is ready for the world.
As part of the UNESCO-WFEO World Engineering Day film, Cynthia’s journey will be featured globally at COP30 and the UNESCO Headquarters in 2026. It will serve as a beacon— demonstrating how engineering, when grounded in empathy, can shift paradigms. It will show that you don’t need a degree to innovate, you need a reason. And it will ask the world to reimagine classrooms not as spaces limited by walls or resources, but as launchpads for limitless potential.
Because Cynthia is not just a Robot. She is a movement. A mentor. A messenger of what becomes possible when engineering meets equity, and technology bends toward justice. She stands as proof that the future can be built from anywhere—even from a classroom in Bhatinda—when we believe in the power of children, and the ingenuity of the human spirit.
Our lab is also co-led by Mr. Samir C. Minz, the Director of Policy, Administration, and Operations at GCSDR. A former State Civil Service Officer of Delhi, Mr. Minz brings a wealth of experience and administrative excellence to support and guide our mission.
Dr. Neelam C. Dey has developed a comprehensive curriculum for teaching AI and Robotics to school students from classes 3 to 10/11, ensuring that learners of all levels are introduced to these essential technologies in an engaging and age-appropriate manner. She has designed a specialized curriculum to integrate AI and robotics into nursing education, aiming to empower both practicing nurses and nursing students with the skills needed to adapt to future healthcare innovations.
Collectively, Dr. Neelam C Dey, Mr. Minz, Director, Policy and Administration, Mr. Abhishek Carls, Director, law and Legal affairs and Ms. Nelisa Carls, Director, Program and Publications and Mr. Satish form a dynamic team, ensuring that the G2G AI & Robotics Lab which is another unit of Global Center for Social Dynamic Research, excels in its vision.

CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

#TheTrue Light 2025 is a global mental health initiative focused on creating awareness, sharing knowledge, sharing field reports, and encouraging healing. Its goal is to openly talk about mental health—especially the areas that are often ignored or misunderstood—and to create safe space where everybody, especially, the students could feel supported to ask for help, share their stories, and worries and connect with spinsters, parents, guardians, friends, well-wishers and others in the civil society. A major part of this initiative is bringing together psychologists, therapists, and mental health experts from around the world. These professionals will participate in online and in-person events such as conferences, workshops, and talks, sharing their knowledge and experiences to guide and help people better understand mental health, suggest means to overcome negative thoughts, and adopt the supports available, giving everybody a chance to learn, connect, and take action to lead a stress free and a positive life.
# The True Light 2025 aims to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and make 2025, a year of real change. The message is simple and that is- WE ARE TOGETHER—AND IT’S TIME TO STEP INTO THE LIGHT.
The intense pressure to succeed in highly competitive exams like JEE and NEET—often seen as the only viable path—has led to a tragic rise in mental health struggles among students. The core issue is that many students and their parents do not consider a Plan ‘B’ ever, which leaves the gifted students struggling silently with anxiety, depression, stress, and in some tragic cases, thoughts of suicide—often without timely access to counselling or mental health support. Even in prestigious institutions like the IITs and Medical Colleges, students face high academic expectations and social isolation, creating mental health crisis that demand immediate and systemic attention and a time bound solution.
Recognizing the seriousness of this grave problem, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has very rightly and timely intervened, stressing the urgent need for comprehensive mental health frameworks, suicide prevention strategies, and support systems, nationwide.
To address this grave situation, the Global Centre for Social Dynamic Research – the GCSDR has launched a nationwide initiative called “ # The True Light 2025 ” to tackle these challenges through a comprehensive mental health program by reaching out to the roots of this deadly menace. This initiative spans from in-depth research to capacity-building workshops and the establishment of sustained support systems for the needy students.
The issue of mental health has become much alarming and much more disturbing than ever before, in the society of today. In the recent times, almost every alternate day, through different electronic and print media reports or from the social media sources, we have been witnessing a growing number of really sadistic, painful and untimely incident of mis-happenings, those involving the brilliant young minds appearing for the JEE and NEET Entrance Exams, though they are otherwise with high potential; to be the strong pillars of India’s future.
These adolescents and youth who could otherwise make significant contributions to the nation, get way laid and they fall prey and succumb finally to the undesired and unwarranted pressures of stress, anxiety, frustration, negative thoughts and mental health struggles; in absentia of timely advice and support, mature guidance, care and counselling at the right time of their life.
Apart from above, the non-performers and school drop outs, face the same situation for want of resources and also due to their adverse family circumstances. Sadly, there has also been a heartbreaking and disturbing rise in brutal cases of criminal acts being committed by the minors even, necessitating the need to intervene urgently.
WHY THIS INITIATIVE MATTERS
The intense pressure to succeed in highly competitive exams like JEE and NEET—often seen as the only viable path—has led to a tragic rise in mental health struggles among students. The real problem lies because the students or their parents, do not have a Plan ‘B’ in their minds, whatsoever. Resultantly, many such gifted students often struggle in silence with anxiety, depression, and unwanted stress and negative thoughts in their mind taking the extreme step—without access to the timely counseling on mental health issues and challenges.
“TRUE LIGHT IMPACT FUND”
The GCSDR is deeply concerned to announce the launch of the “TRUE LIGHT IMPACT FUND” that will provide a sustained financial support for the student’s mental health programs, prevention measures, and resilience-building initiatives nationwide.
